About Lower Zambezi
There are certain areas in Africa that never receive the recognition they deserve. Lower Zambezi National Park is one of those rare places – still a hidden gem tucked into a quiet corner of Zambia and home to some of Africa’s most rewarding wildlife and bird viewing. Vast and beautifully untouched, it offers an extraordinary sense of space and solitude. Low tourist numbers mean you’ll rarely encounter other vehicles, allowing for unhurried sightings and truly intimate wildlife encounters – something increasingly rare in Africa today.
One of the most striking things about the Lower Zambezi is the diversity of landscapes you experience in a single safari. Towering winterthorn and acacia woodlands, wide-open floodplains, dense riverine forests, and sandy islands create a constantly changing backdrop to your safari adventures. These varied ecosystems support an abundance of wildlife, from elephants and big cats to an exceptional array of birdlife, ensuring every day feels different and every sighting feels cinematic.
Walking safaris, canoeing, 4×4 game drives and boating are all on offer – each revealing a different perspective of the wilderness. Canoeing is particularly special here. Unlike the Zimbabwean side of the Zambezi river, the Zambian bank is dotted with beautiful side channels and lagoons that draw wildlife in droves, making for unforgettable sightings at water level and moments of complete tranquillity.
