Danielle Carstens

Guest Testimonials

My wife and I (both in our late 70’s) have just returned from what was probably one of the most wonderful experiences of our lives. Without the guidance of Danielle who changed this from a game sighting safari to a photographic experience we would have missed so much.

Our photographic host Danielle was fantastic. She ensured every guest had one on one time with her, explaining various aspects of photography as well as Lightroom. Due to her excellent teaching skills I have a new passion capturing birds in flight, something I never believed I would be able to do. I still need loads of practice but this was a great starting point. Danielle pointed out alternate concepts like high and low key when the conditions were right, wow what great images these concepts produced. We met as strangers and left as friends.

Wonderful trip hosted by Danielle. She was friendly , helpful and improved my photography skills while making the trip an absolute pleasure. Can’t wait to return.

Danielle is the coach one can only hope to have along: always ready to share her vast understanding of cameras, settings, light conditions, and wildlife. But never getting in the way of our creativity.

My recent trip to Botswana with Danielle will go down in history as one of the best wildlife photography experiences I’ve had in 10 years! She has changed how I photograph a subject and I am deeply grateful for her guidance. If you have a chance to travel with her – take it you will not regret it!

In the beginning of the trip, my pictures weren’t very good. Danielle was excellent! She helped me bigtime. She spent some quality time with me about my camera. After her help my pictures significantly improved. Danielle is top notch. I can’t thank Danielle enough with her expertise about photography. If you are looking for a person to help you take better photographs, look no further than Danielle. She is the best!

And then the real reason for the trip, to polish our wildlife photographic skills and here we must specifically mention Danielle Carstens, our superb photo host, who knows more about the settings and workings of just about every camera on the market. In addition, she has a an excellent eye for a creative photo opportunity. She could make a mundane and humble image leap into life with her encouraging tuition and I think everyone of our group loved the way she goaded us into creating wildlife images which we never thought we were capable of

During a 10-day photo safari you have the opportunity to see a person in action. During the 10 days our group spent with Danielle you saw a person that was organised, knew the workings of both Nikon and Canon, helped all of us become better photographers, had in depth knowledge of the animals we saw and made one feel at ease. The only issue was that 10 days went by too fast. I hope to be a repeat participant on one of her future photo safaris.

~ John

I was lucky enough to spend a week on safari in Botswana with Danielle as my photography guide, and it was an absolute pleasure. She was knowledgeable, patient, and probably most importantly, full of good humour! I’d highly recommend her services, you won’t be disappointed.

it was the guidance that Danielle offered that made the experience so special. She constantly foresaw photographic opportunities and suggested ways in which situations might be approached, in terms of composition, camera settings, or creative opportunities. Between game drives Danielle also held sessions on Lightroom workflows and editing techniques, calmly answering my endless questions! She is highly skilled at explaining complex things with great clarity and with regard to each individual’s skill level and, along with her great patience, I have no doubt that her expertise enabled me to achieve photographic results to the best of my ability. Her knowledge of the bush is also deep, and her encouragement to listen to it as well as see, heightened the experience. I will certainly book with Danielle again and, if you are interested in an intimate and personal experience of the African bush, I cannot recommend her highly enough.

~ David

Danielle is so knowledgeable and friendly. Some of us were complete “newbies” to photography with a DSLR, while others, like my husband, were on the “experienced” end, but Danielle so expertly, (and patiently and kindly), worked with each of us at our individual skill levels. She was also able to bring us all together to enjoy and learn as a group and made it a most memorable and fun time. You can feel her joy and passion for photography and wildlife. We are already talking about doing another trip with Danielle!

~ Elaine

We had the absolute pleasure of having Danielle as our photo guide. I’m an experienced photographer, and my wife, Helen, was a beginner, but we both gained so much from Danielle’s patient and informed suggestions and instructions. Helen particularly has grown so much from Danielle’s advice, both on photographing wildlife and on editing her images. Danielle is so knowledgeable on camera gear and techniques, but also on so much of the Wildlife that we couldn’t help but get some of the most amazing photographs ever! We would not hesitate to recommend going on a Photographic Safari with Danielle, and will most definitely be doing it again with her in the future.

~ Steve

Danielle guided and taught photography with gusto and enthusiasm and did not mind explaining photography concepts and demonstrating them, with practical examples from the river trips. Her knowledge of the wildlife and their behaviour is superb, making our experience that much more rewarding, with lots of learning too. I have no hesitation in recommending her as a photographic guide and teacher of the highest calibre.
