About Lower Zambezi

There are certain areas in Africa that never receive the recognition they deserve. Lower Zambezi National Park is one of those areas – currently still a hidden gem in a secret corner of Zambia and home to some of Africa’s best wildlife & bird viewing. Low tourist numbers in the park together with an abundance of free-roaming wildlife make this one of the best African experiences you will ever have.

Walking, canoeing, 4×4 driving and boating are all on offer. The canoeing is specifically exceptional – unlike the Zimbabwean side of the Zambezi river, the Zambian side features small channels which attract an abundance of wildlife & birds.

The other extremely important factor for us, is the quality of local guiding. Zambia has some of Africa’s most highly trained guides – specifically so at the camps that we will be staying at. Working with these guides increase the chances for multiple fantastic photo opportunities and ensures that you are safe. If you are seeking a true African wildlife experience, Lower Zambezi is it.

We will be staying at two camps – with the Zambezi river right on your doorstep. The thought of being surrounded by wildlife may be daunting (yet thrilling) but you will be extremely well looked after by myself & camp staff and you will have an unforgettable African experience. Please see the photos below to get a clear idea of the camp setup – it is truly special.

Our aim on this safari is for you to get many beautiful photographs and to improve your skills as photographer. Photographers of all skill levels are welcome – I will meet you where you are at and be there to answer any questions you may have. We will prioritise light, as this is the essence of photography. This means crisp, early mornings (returning to the lodge once the light is harsh) and making use of warm late afternoon light, returning to the lodge when it is dark. During the heat of the day, you are free to relax, download photos, charge batteries etc. I will be there to assist you with editing your photographs.

All photographers will have a “window seat” in the open game drive vehicle. Please note: We will not be influencing wildlife behaviour (calling, baiting etc) in order to get great photographs, we will merely observe their behaviour and together with our highly experienced local field guide, get you into the best situation and position for the best photo opportunities.
